"From Mumbai to Making Apps That Matter"

When I first contacted Navigate NZ in 2020, I was a nervous 18-year-old from Mumbai who had never been away from home. I dreamed of studying computer science, but the application process seemed overwhelming. My advisor Sarah took the time to understand not just my academic goals, but my fears and aspirations too.

She helped me choose the University of Auckland's Computer Science program, prepared my application meticulously, and even guided my parents through the financial documentation for my visa. "From Student to Successful Business Owner"

I came to New Zealand in 2018 with limited English skills and big dreams of working in hospitality. Navigate NZ's advisor Mei Lin, who speaks Mandarin, made the whole process so much easier for me and my parents. She recommended Otago Polytechnic's hospitality program, which had excellent facilities and strong industry connections.

What impressed me most was that Navigate NZ's support didn't end when I got my student visa. They helped me find accommodation in Dunedin, connected me with other Chinese students before I arrived, and checked in regularly during my first year to make sure I was settling in well.

During my diploma, I worked part-time in restaurants (Navigate NZ made sure I understood my work rights), which gave me practical experience. When I graduated, they helped me apply for my post-study work visa and later supported my essential skills work visa application when I became a restaurant manager.

Three years after graduation, I now own my own restaurant in Queenstown—a fusion of Chinese and New Zealand cuisine. I've obtained residence and recently brought my parents to visit. Looking back, choosing Navigate NZ was one of the best decisions I made.
